Serving statewide coordinating and governing boards in developing and sustaining excellent systems of higher education.

Governing Higher Education
The governance of colleges and universities rests in American higher education with appointed lay boards.
Governing boards may govern single institutions, either public or private, or govern multiple institutions as part of higher education systems. To meet other governing and coordinating roles, many states have established coordinating boards that exercise a variety of functions, including statewide planning, program approval and monitoring, and making budget and policy recommendation to Governors and legislatures.

Governing and coordinating boards help states identify needs and priorities, provide oversight and accountability, promote effective leadership, and ensure resources are used effectively, among other functions.
